Upcoming Classes

As most of you know, I am privileged to teach and work at Pioneer Quilts.

www.pioneerquiltshop.com/

It is a beautiful shop that carries many different styles of fabric and the people who work there are full of great ideas to help you with any of your projects....or to help you get started if you are new to the art of quilting.

I have a few classes coming up that I wanted to make you aware of. The next one is a hand piecing class that will show you how to make Cathedral Window blocks.

This is what the blocks look like. They are all done by hand. You can make a large quilt out of these blocks and don't need to add batting or backing as they are finished as you go or you can make a doll quilt like I did.

The class will be held Wednesday December 12 from 10:30-2:30. Call the shop if you would like to join us..503.654.1555

Several years ago Jan Patek began a series of patterns for a group that she called Girl Gang. They are folk art style quilts and in the making of the blocks you can learn many different techniques. You can see many of her quilts at
 janpatekquilts.goodsie.com/

She also has a nice blog:

We will be starting her very first Girl Gang quilt in January on the second Monday...the 14th. We meet each month to encourage each other and see how far we are in making our blocks. I would invite you to come December 10 at 10:30-1 to see what we have been working on this year. The class is $15.00 each month and I think you would enjoy the social aspect as well as learn some new skills. My email address is

Let me know if you have any questions.

Another class that I do monthly is called the Spargonians!! That is a combination of Oregonians and Spargo. Sue Spargo is a friend of mine who has a special gift for creating quilts and projects that are delightfully different from anyone else. You can see what all she is involved with at:

This is a sample of her style.

We meet each 4th Saturday of each month to work on projects that are designed by her. Some work on small projects and some of us do her Block of the Month, it is your choice as to what one you want to work on. I would invite you to come and see what we do. It is a very lively group and we are full of enthusiasm. We are also very sharing with our supplies and our opinions!! The next time we meet will be Dec. 22 from 11:30-2:30. There is a charge of $15.00. Once again call Pioneer Quilts to save your place. 503.654.1555

I am happy to announce that we will begin a new series of classes in January from Homestead Hearth. We have been doing a Jo Morton group for several years and we will continue to offer a Jo Morton fabric club. Along with this feature, we will be making these quilts~~~

I am very excited to begin this program. The quilts are fun to make and she provides a story line to go along with making the quilts. We will learn things about their everyday life, lives lived so different from ours. This class will be offered the 4th Sat. of each month from 10 AM-11AM. I think you will enjoy learning and stitching with us.

The last class I would like to shamelessly promote is one to be held in January. It is a special pattern designed by a friend of mine, Beverly Smith. Along with a bit of help from Nancy Friesen, Beverly has designed a Sewing Box that is beautiful to look at and is great fun to make. I am very grateful to her for letting me have the fun of teaching her project.

It is made by covering paper pentagon shapes with fabric and sewing them together. The finishing touches include a pincushion, a strawberry and your own personal doodads. I hope this will make you want to make one with us.

As you can see, there are lots of fun things to choose from. There are many other teachers at Pioneer Quilts that have wonderful classes to offer too. I hope you will take time to check them out. We are working on a new batch of classes to begin in January.

When we make  plans for a new year, many of us want to learn something new, this would be a great opportunity to begin a quilting treasure.
