i wish I would live more by these words! I have a lot of unnecessary stuff....but my stitching things should not be included!

We had a great time in our Sashiko class in January. 






My friend MaryAnn, organized a birthday lunch for me and my friends brought all kinds of Japanese style dishes for lunch....it also celebrated my High Number birthday!! Nancy made a most decadent chocolate cake. It was a huge fun day for me and we worked on some lovely Sashiko stitches.

After working on some Sashiko projects I am now finding that Boro Collages are another way to use the Sashiko craft.


Boro (Japanese: ぼろ) are a class of Japanese textiles that have been mended or patched together.[1] The term is derived from Japanese boroboro, meaning something tattered or repaired.

Definition of collage

  1. 1a :  an artistic composition made of various materials (as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface <cut pictures from magazines to make a collage>b :  a creative work that resembles such a composition in incorporating various materials or elements <the album is a collageof several musical styles>

This is one I made and one I'm working on


It is fun to take bits of fabric and arrange them in a pleasing way and then stitch them down to a background.

I will host a class on Boro Collage on Monday March 13. It will be from 10-4 and I will make you lunch. I will provide needles and thread and lots of fabric. If you have a color way or fabrics that you'd like to include, bring them. It can be interesting to add charms or keys or buttons or whatever.

My family conspired to bring my kids from The Netherlands to surprise me for my birthday. Best surprise ever!!!! They stayed for two weeks and I was blessed to spend a lot of time with Nora. It was so fun. She is the sweetest little girl and I loved every minute. Thank you to all my family for doing this for me.

It was a good thing that my open studio was scheduled for the day it was because I just barely escaped the snow! It was a fun day and many friends stopped by to see where I love to sew. A friend who I hadn't seen in years, Joy, came and I was so happy to see her again. When I owned The Quilting B, the best thing about being there was all the new friends I made. I probably would never met many of you if it hadn't been for those years! Thanks! Here are a few of the pictures from that day. Ellen came with her project and it is beautiful! I guess if I'm going to get anything else written before 2013, I'd better get at it. Earlier this month Loren and I went to downtown Portland and watched the Tuba Christmas. It was held at Pioneer Courthouse Square and was beautiful. Listening to that many tubas outside was wonderful. It was a little misty and a bit cold but all crowded together, it wasn't bad. I love the old courthouse. Tried to get the flag billowing out, almost. It is such a beautiful old building. We don't have many buildings like this, we tear them down and make something new. nice tree...great back view of someones head! After watching for a while we went to.... Besides the greatest smelling cigars, they sell their wonderful cigar boxes. I was looking for a perfect one to give my daughter with a scarf that I knitted for her. Of course, I found one and sorry I didn't take a picture of it. It is black and just perfect for her. Score!  A little l...

I don't know about you, but I am always checking my planner to see what comes next. I keep it all written down so I don't have to strain my brain to remember. Good thing because I forget a lot.
