Summer coming to an end?

I think summer is a wonderful season. When else could we have great tomatoes. But enough already with the 90+ days!!

Yesterday we had the Petit Four class. So much creativity happening. Here are a few samples.

The last three are mine. I think they all did great work and went home inspired to do more.

Thanks for making my day so full of fun.

The Theory class is the one rescheduled from August.  We will be working out of Yoko Saito's book            "Japanese Taupe Theory". We will make our own personal Color Wheel. Class supply list will be emailed when you sign up at     thequiltingb1947@gmail.com

A few projects included in the book

Placemat Class

These placemats are fun and quick to do. They use the Sashiko stitch to create one set of stitches on one side and a different stitch on the reverse. Only takes 1/2 yard of two different fabrics and Sashiko thread. I used a linen blend. A supply list is available when you sign up.

Boro Collage class

I had several requests for a repeat of this class. We will talk about Sashiko stitching and how those stitches can be used in different ways.

Here is a great place to get an idea of what Boro is all about

"These textiles are generational storybooks, lovingly repaired
& patched with what fabric was available.
Never intended to be viewed as a thing of beauty,
these textiles today take on qualities of collage, objects of history,
and objects with life and soul."

~ John Foster, Accidental Mysteries blog ~

It is exciting to explore old mending ways to make new creations. You can choose beautiful indigo fabrics or other color combinations and then get out your threads of choice to embellish. I will have lots of fabric and thread for you to try out. Questions? Please ask by email or phone

ephemera

  1. What does it mean? What does it look like?
Ephemera (singular: ephemeron) are any transitory written or printed matter not meant to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek ephemeros, meaning "lasting only one day, short-lived".[1] Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, defunct stock certificates or tickets, and zines.

Looks like great collage material. I love the word and how it sounds.

Do you like collecting "found" things in hope of using them in the future? You might like the Boro class. Just might be what you need to put all those little ephemeral items you've been saving!!!

and lastly....a word of wisdom
